Who We Are
Team Trakr Foundation (TTF) is an international humanitarian organization committed to training and deploying elite K9 search and rescue (SAR) teams across the United States and around the world. Our organization was founded by James Symington, K9 search and rescue expert, former police officer and animal rescue advocate to continue the extraordinary SAR legacy of his K9 partner and 9/11 hero, Trakr. We are a privately funded Nonprofit Public Benefit Organization headquartered in Los Angeles, California. Click here for a copy of the IRS determination of tax-exempt status.
We are dedicated to providing life-saving K9 resources to people who are lost, trapped or missing due to emergency situations or disasters, both natural and man-made. Last year, 321 natural disasters occurred worldwide causing the loss of more than 200,000 innocent lives.1 In the United States alone, it is estimated that more than 50,000 search and rescue missions take place each year. Ninety percent of these are conducted by volunteers.2 Privately funded, mobile K9 teams can respond quickly to any crisis, including a lost child in California, a hurricane in Florida or an earthquake in Indonesia, ultimately saving more lives.
What We Do
We provide the care, equipment, training and transportation necessary to develop and deploy elite K9 SAR teams. Our first activity is to train and deploy Team Trakr by early 2011. Team Trakr is made up of five German shepherds who are genetic doubles of Trakr. They have all been charged with carrying on Trakr'operation-tt.shtml">Learn more >
TTF will also recruit, help train and support other mobile, elite K9 SAR teams that adopt, train and deploy abandoned and unwanted dogs on life-saving SAR missions domestically and abroad.
We are guided by the principle of humanity and undertake to save lives. We also respect the animal and human bond and extend that principle to our K9 teams, whose safety and wellbeing is a priority.
TTF is not affiliated with any political, religious or military agenda.
